How it all began…

A surprise pregnancy ends tragically for newlyweds Katie and Eli when their daughter, Poppy, is stillborn. Devastated by her baby’s death, Katie begins a quest of reinvention. She learns how to ask for help and give herself grace while healing, changing careers, and building community.

In her memoir, Katie explores how vulnerability is a source of power, how acceptance forges a path to freedom, and how creativity heals. Her story normalizes our collective pain and uses empathy, vulnerability and love to nurture the places that hurt within all of us.

What started as a way to heal her own soul, Katie’s memoir developed from a deeply personal passion project into a movement. Katie’s writing breaks down the isolation, stigma, and shame too often felt by those who experience pregnancy loss and gives a loud yet graceful voice to our culture’s damaging and lonely history of forcing silence on grieving mothers.  

Published in May 2022, Still Breathing was a bestseller in Pregnancy and Childbirth and Family Health categories on Amazon. Katie narrated the book and released it on Audible in August 2023. Still Breathing won an American Writing Award for Women’s Issues in 2023.
